Opportunities with the Small Business Administration (SBA): Access to Capital, Resources & Counseling

When it comes to reliability and accessibility to business planning, strategy, finance and expansion through procurement, the SBA and its team of small business experts is counselor, friend and partner. Plus, there are special initiatives for companies that qualify for minority, veteran, Historically Underutilized Business (HUBZone), 8(a) and other SBA programs designed to specially assist business growth in these areas. The SBA's District Directors from Los Angeles, Santa Ana and San Diego will provide an introduction to the services and programs available through the SBA with an emphasis on financing opportunities, Office of Advocacy issues and the Small Business Innovation and Research (SBIR) program.

Presenters:

  • Sandy Sutton, District Director, Santa Ana District Office, SBA
  • Alberto Alvarado, District Director, Los Angeles District Office, SBA
  • George Chandler, District Director, San Diego District Office, SBA

Small Business Resources

Insights, experience and know-how is what thousands of small businesses have obtained through the help of critical small business resources accessible online - and through strategically located centers throughout greater Southern California. Experts from SCORE, the Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) and the Women's Business Center will discuss how you can obtain free, invaluable assistance in the areas of financing alternatives, business strategy, government procurement, certification and many other critical business needs. You'll get first hand information on how to access these consulting and training services through the network of small business resources including nine SBDCs, eight SCORE chapters and four Women's Business Centers.

Presenters:

Doing Business with the Government

As a small business, there's never been a better time to do business with government agencies. Recent changes in the laws and regulations that define government contracting and the procurement process have made it easier than ever for small firms to participate in this multi-billion dollar industry. Government buying experts will open doors for you to new information on such topics as identifying new opportunities for contracts, purchasing methods and considerations, insights on prime contracts, where to get assistance in sourcing new leads, details on important registrations necessary to compete for government contracts and key elements to consider in developing successful relationships with government buying organizations.

Presenters:

Doing Business with Large Corporations

Did you know that large corporations are given tax incentives for procuring a certain percentage of goods and services from small business? Most major corporations have supplier diversity organizations dedicated to helping smaller firms looking to navigate the sometimes complex, overwhelming terrain of large businesses. Further, many large companies represent substantial government contracts and they sub-contract aspects of these opportunities to small businesses as prime contractors. This panel will introduce you to the opportunities for garnering big wins in large corporations, how to establish and build relationships and what key requirements your business must possess in order to successfully garner recurring opportunities through procurement with larger firms.
